Introduction:
1. Antipyretic and analgesic effects
Resveratrol exerts therapeutic efficacy through a number of different pathways, and it has been shown to have some antipyretic and analgesic activity, as shown in studies in intact mice and rats (Lin and Hu, 1987). Its extract has been shown to confer resistance to the gastric mucosa against stress ulcers caused by suppressed gastric secretion without affecting blood pressure.
2. Anti-cancer, anti-mutation ability
As an antioxidant, anti-mutagenic and anti-inflammatory agent, resveratrol has shown chemopreventive abilities against cancer. It also induces the differentiation of human promyelocytic leukemia cells (antiproliferative effect) and inhibits the development of pre-malignant tissue lesions in mice. Resveratrol also inhibits protein tyrosine kinase, a substance that catalyzes tyrosine phosphorylation. This kinase is involved in the cytoplasmic signaling of mitotically regulated cells. Inhibition of protein tyrosine kinases with resveratrol may have antimutagenic effects by preventing kinase function.
3. Prevents Heart and Liver Damage
Resveratrol inhibits hepatic triglyceride and cholesterol deposition in mice. It can also increase the levels of aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase by inhibiting the lipid peroxidation reaction in the liver of mice. Analysis of these two enzymes in serum gives good diagnostic information for heart and liver damage.
