Ginger Extract Introduction
Ginger, the underground stem, or rhizome of the plant Zingiber officinale, has been used for medicinal purposes in Chinese, Indian and Arabic herbal traditions since ancient times. Ginger has been used to aid digestion and treat stomach upset, diarrhea and nausea for more than 2,000 years in China. Gingerols are the major pungent compounds present in the rhizomes of ginger, has a variety of biological activities, ranging from anti-cancer, anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic to various central nervous system activities. Ginger can help reduce the symptoms of motion sickness better than placebo does. Ginger extract is also used as a traditional medicine for headaches, common cold, menstrual pain, vomiting, coughs and colds, and food poisoning. It can also help reduce the pain caused by osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis by reducing inflammation levels.
