The gall on the leaf of Rhus chinensis Mill. (Chinese sumac), Rhus potaninii Maxim. (potanin sumac) or Rhus punjabensis var. sinica (Diels) Rehd. et Wils. (red-punjab sumac), a deciduous dungarunga of the family Anacardiaceae, which is mainly formed by the parasitism of an insect called the "gall aphid". A typical gall is smooth and oblong. In China, it is distributed in most areas but mainly produced in Sichuan province. It picked off in autumn.
Chinese Gall is the gall produced mainly by parasitic aphids of Melaphis chinensis (Bell) Baker on the leaf of Rhus chinensis Mill. ,Rhus potaninii Maxim, or Rhus phunjabensis Stew. var. sinica (Diels) Rehd. et Wils. (Fam. Anacardiaceae). According to its form the drug is divided into "Dubei" and "Jiaobei".
