Allicin is an organosulfur compound derived from the bulb (garlic head) of the Allium Sativum plant in the Allium family and is also found in Onions and other allium-family plants. Allicin is a broad spectrum antibacterial drug, with anti-inflammatory, lowering blood pressure, lowering blood lipids and other biological functions. In addition, allicin used in animal husbandry and aquaculture, can significantly improve production performance, reduce morbidity, reduce mortality, increase aquaculture benefits.

Allicin has strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects, and has inhibitory or killing effects on a variety of cocci, bacilli, fungi and viruses. Allicin can inhibit the propagation of dysentery bacilli, typhoid bacilli, Staphylococcus, pneumococcus and so on. In clinic, oral allicin can treat enteritis, dysentery, loss of appetite and so on. Studies have shown that Helicobacter pylori infection is the main cause of peptic ulcer disease. Allicin has obvious antibacterial and bactericidal effects on gastrointestinal bacteria. The clinical application of allicin in the treatment of HP related peptic ulcer proved that allicin is effective in the treatment of HP related gastric and duodenal ulcer.

The cardiovascular effects of allicin are achieved by lowering plasma total cholesterol, lowering blood pressure, inhibiting platelet activity, reducing hematocrit and blood viscosity. Experiments have confirmed that allicin has the effect of preventing the occurrence of gastric cancer. It has obvious inhibitory effect on the growth of nitrate reducing bacteria isolated from gastric juice and its ability to produce nitrite, and can reduce the content of nitrite in human gastric juice, thus reducing the risk of gastric cancer.
