Bittermelon originates in East India and is widely cultivated in tropical to temperate regions of the world. The north and south of China are widely cultivated.
Bitter melon extract has a good hypoglycemic effect, known as plant in sulin. The whole ingredient extract, used for type 2 diabetes three times a day, 2g each time, can maintain the normal level of blood sugar, because it is extracted from plants, so compared with western medicine hypoglycemic drugs, no toxic side effects. Bitter melon contains steroidal saponins such as momordicin, insulin-like peptides and alkaloids, which give it hypoglycemic activity.
This hypoglycemic function is attributed to two substances :(1) momordicin - a crystalline substance obtained from an ethanol extract of the fruit of bitter melon. At a controlled dose of 50mg, momordicin reduced blood glucose by 42% in rabbits.
(2) P-in sulin (or V-in sulin, as it is plant in sulin). It has a large molecular peptide structure and is similar to bovine in sulin in pharmacology.
Bittermelon Extract is a proven hypoglycemic substance. One of the most reliable hypoglycemic active substances is Charantin, which is composed of a mixture of carotenoside and 5, 25-danestadienol glucoside. Therefore, it is very important to evaluate the total active components and pavilion of bittermelon extract.
