There are three major blueberry types:
1. Highbush (Vaccinium corymbosum L.)
2. Lowbush blueberry (Vaccinium angustifolium Ation)
3. Bilberries (European blueberry, Vaccinium myrtillus)
KINGHERBS use highbush blueberries for extraction, they are wild and are
made up of many different clones that exhibit a great deal of phytochemical
diversity, the highbush fruit is bigger than that of the lowbush variety. KINGHERBS use only blueberry from
Changbai Mountains. The Blueberry average
weight of 0.5 ~ 2.5 g, maximum weight 5 g, the seed is very small, the blue
lustre is charming, with a layer of white powder, the berry tastes
sweet-sour with a pleasant aroma.
KINGHERBS freeze the blueberry within 3 hours after the berry being washed gently.
The functional components of Vaccinium products appear to be the phenolic
compounds, particularly the anthocyanins and pterostilbene. Blueberry extract is now used as an alternative to
the expensive Vaccinium myrtillus extracts, a
type of European wild blueberry which is widely used in prescription and
Blueberries are powerful antioxidants. Antioxidants help neutralize harmful
by products of metabolism called "free radicals" that can lead to cancer and other age related diseases.
Anthocyanin, which is the pigment that makes the
blueberry blue, is the key antioxidant responsible for these benefits.
Developments have placed Blueberry at the top of the health list to soak up
free radicals and combat carcinogens. The anthocyanins in Blueberry are
beneficial for helping to combat age-related memory loss and Alzheimer's disease. This nutrient and vitamin rich
berry also supports healthy blood sugar levels and healthy cardiac function.
l Protect eyesight and prevent blindness, glaucoma, improve myopia.
l Preventing atherosclerosis, Preventing brain from aging.
l Enhancing immune function.
l Scavenge free radical activity.
l Preventing atherosclerosis.
l Soften blood vessels, blood circulation
l Enhancing immune function.
l Preventing brain from aging, anti-cancer and anti-oxydant, especially the colon cancer,
l Reducing age-related memory loss
l Supporting sugar levels and healthy cardiac function
l Blueberries have also great value in the food industry, they not only contribute flavour and colour, but they also enhance the nutritional profile of foods and
can act as a partial or complete fat replacer. Reduced fat products benefit from the improved mouth-feel and texture that blueberries impart (NABC 1998).
Pulping the freezing berry
Extracting the pulp with grain ethanol 35% to 40% for 3 times, 1.5hrs each
time, at as low temperature as 45±2ºC to avoid any damage to the ingredients.
Mixing the liquid extraction from each of the 3 extraction times, filter, then
concentrating with vacuum pump, at temperature as low as below 60ºC.
Water-cooling grinding, filtering and blending
