Introduction:
 
Bilberry, with scientific name as Vaccinium myrtillus., belongs to the azalea family. Perennial deciduous or ever-green tree, shrub. There are about 450 kind of bilberry genus all over the world, distributing in the Northern Hemisphere from the North Pole to the mountainous region of the tropics. In Europe, North America and Canada, as nutritious food, it may help form iodopsin, thus making eyes suit with the light, keeping vision in dark light and reducing fatigue sense.
Shape: Being as ever-green short shrub, with height 10-25 cm. Brown color for old branch and green for new one, with short hair growing thickly. It presents clear net vein, leaf length 1-2 cm, width 0.6-1 cm.  Each inflorescence with 2-15 flowers, in pale or pink color. Fruit appears crimson, with diameter about 0.7 cm and old calyx on the top. Florescence: May-June; Fruit period: Aug.-Set.
Cultivation: Normally the cultivation for Bilberry should be done when the soil is thawed with sufficient moisture, watering fully at the bottom after cultivation. Make cultivation in autumn or spring, with spacing in the rows and row spacing as 0.5-1.0 X 1.0 m. Cover all the plants with soil at once after autumn cultivation, coming up next spring. Irrigate in time during growing period. Spread chemical fertilizer in spring 7-10 days before sprouting, with nitrogenous-phosphate fertilizer 150-500 kg  per square meter at the proportion of 10:10:10. Remove weeds in time and prune once along the surface every 3-4 years. It will be more ideal to adopt the method for growing seedlings on high-bed, with the height 20-30 cm and escape canal as well. In sloping fields with good drainage, select low bed after soil preparation, with bed height 10-20 cm, no need to dig canal. Make cuttage by hard branch, by green branch, by root or organization cultivation for seedling breeding. Space in the rows for setting should be 40-50 cm, row spacing 50-100 cm.
Harvest: Make harvest in summer and autumn upon mature fruits. The berry is easy to be rotten, so keep in low temperature and dry places. The berry is similar to round, with diameter as 0.5-2 cm, in blue-black color or crimson.
Distribution: There are more than 130 kinds of bilberry, distributing in the Northern Hemisphere from the North Pole to the mountainous region of the tropics.
