Introduction
Polygonum cuspidatum is used in traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine to treat a variety of ailments, including mold infections, various skin inflammations, cardiovascular and liver diseases.
Polygonum cuspidatum are the good source of resveratrol, and are used to produce standardized resveratrol extracts. Resveratrol is not only used to reduce platelet coagulation and tumor chemoprophylaxis, treat and prevent atherosclerosis, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, but also has a good anti-tumor effect. In cosmetic, with a purity of more than 95%, resveratrol has comprehensive whitening ability and effectively inhibits multiple genetic control points in the formation of melanin.
Polydatin, a natural resveratrol glycoside, is extracted from the root of Polygonum cuspidatum too. Research showed it has anti-inflammatory effects. And it also has inhibitory effect on staphylococcus aureus, catarrh, A or B streptococcus and Escherichia coli. It can be used as antioxidant for free radical clearance.
Emodin is also a main ingredient of Polygonum cuspidatum. Abroad, people use it as a laxative. Frangula Emodin (Emodin), a derivative of anthraquinone, has anti-inflammatory and anticancer effects. Reports shown that it is an anti-SARS-COV compound which can blocks the SARS coronavirus spike protein.
