Descriptions:
Hawthorne Berry Extract is made from the tiny red berries that grow on the Hawthorne shrub. Hawthorne berries as well as the leaves and flowers have been used in traditional medical systems since ancient times. Hawthorne berry extract is widely used as a heart tonic, particularly in Europe.

Introductions:
Maslinic acid is a pentacyclic triterpene found in a variety of natural sources, ranging from herbal remedies used in traditional Asian medicine to edible vegetables and fruits present in the Mediterranean diet. In recent years, several studies have proved that maslinic acid exerts a wide range of biological activities, i.e. antitumor, antidiabetic, antioxidant, cardioprotective, neuroprotective, antiparasitic and growth-stimulating. Experimental models used for the assessment of maslinic acid effects include established cell lines, which have been often used to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of action, and also animal models of different disorders, which have confirmed the effects of the triterpene in vivo.

Aslinic acid is a pentacyclic triterpene, found in the non-glyceride fraction of olive pomace oil (Olive pomace oil, also known as "orujo" olive oil, is a blend of refined-pomace oil and virgin olive oil, fit for human consumption). Pentacyclic triterpenes are natural compounds which are widely distributed in plants. These natural products have been demonstrated to possess anti-inflammatory properties. Triterpenoids have been reported to possess antioxidant properties, since they prevent lipid peroxidation and suppress superoxide anion generation. The triterpenes have a history of medicinal use in many Asian countries. Maslinic acid exhibits both pro- and anti-inflammatory properties depending on chemical structure and dose and may be useful in modulating the immune response.

Maslinic acid extracted from notably pomace olive oil (orujo). This pentacyclic triterpene has an antiproliferative agent against Caco-2 cancer cells (EC50 = 15 µM), HT-29 human colon cancer cells (EC50 = 74 µM), 1321N1 astrocytoma cells (IC50 = 25 µM), and human leukemia (CCRF-CEM and CEM/ADR5000) cells (IC50 = 7 µM and 9 µM respectively).1,2,3,4 Maslinic acid · s antiproliferative activity likely comes from the induction of an oxidative apoptotic pathway, causing cell cycle and cytoskeleton alterations. Maslinic acid has been found to attenuate intracellular oxidative stress via inhibition of NO and H2O2 production and reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokine generation in murine macrophages.5 Recently maslinic acid has been found to inhibit the spread of the HIV virus by inhibiting the replication of a primary HIV-1 isolate as well as decreased the cytopathic effect and p24 antigen levels in MT2 cells.6

Maslinic acid, a natural triterpene from Olea europaea L., induces apoptosis in HT29 human colon-cancer cells via the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway. Maslinic acid used was a white powder comprising 98% maslinic acid and 2% of oleanolic acid. This extract was stable when stored at 4 ºC It was dissolved before use at 10 mg/ml in 25% DMSO and 75% PBS. A stock solution was frozen and stored at -20 ºC.

Main Function:
Inhibiting thyroid peroxidase, anticancer and antibacterial;
Decreasing blood lipid, inhibiting platelet aggregation and spasmolysis;
Scavenging free radicals and enhancing the immunity;
Treating coronary heart disease and angina pectoris;
The function of strengthening stomach, promoting digestion and preventing postpartum syndrome;
Dilating coronary artery, improving myocardial blood and decreasing myocardium oxygen consumption, thus preventing ischemic heart disease
